The Don is back!I was gonna start this article with a good GodFather movie quote, but thought that is probably what eveyone is doing. And CS Rhino told me "never quote the classics in print". So lets just dive right in and check out the game that people are talking about and get some information and see what the word is around town on the game based on the greatest movie ever made. EA Red WoodShore's The God Father II.
Here is our First Look at God Father II The Godfather II is an action-strategy hybrid video game loosely based on the classic film series. The game is being developed and published by Electronic Arts.
The Godfather II game, while loosely based on the film starring Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro, goes beyond the plot of the film to give players a more in-depth experience. On the eve of the Cuban revolution, the Don of the player's family is killed in Cuba, leaving it up to the player to take the reigns and lead the battered organization, reestablishing the Corleone power base in Queens.
Building off the gameplay elements from the first Godfather game, EA has expanded the gameplay in order to make players feel more like Don running a large crime organization, rather than serving as a lone hitman. This comes in the form of being able to recruit and invest in other characters in the game to strengthen your overall power and wealth. Because of these elements, the game ventures into strategy and even RPG territory.
In addition to the single player mode, the game also features four multiplayer modes. Rather than playing as the main character from the story mode, in multiplayer, players can choose to play as any of the other characters they've recruited while playing the game in single player. The multiplayer modes are all designed around specific skills that these henchmen build up during the single player portion of the game.

This is what our buddy Jeff had to say about The GodFather II :
"Whenever a company attempts to touch a well known and loved property, they tread into particularly dangerous territory. Go too loose with the interpretation, and you'll get roasted by fans and critics for completely abandoning the source material; too close and there's practically no point in making the game version at all. This was the tightrope that Electronic Arts had to walk with The Godfather II, an action title that attempts to follow some key elements of the acclaimed film. Adding in a healthy dose of strategy to aid fledgling Dons with their criminal empire, The Godfather II provides a good dose of entertainment, but the lack of difficulty holds the game back from truly becoming a great crime game."
And here is what others are saying about The God Father II
ABC News "There's little to complain about when tearing through the streets of Miami in a vintage Corvette or shaking down a store owner for control of his racket. It may just be business, but boy is it fun, too."
NBC Bay Area "If you're a fan of the Godfather films and enjoyed the first installment of the Godfather Game from Electronic Arts, consider volume II a hit."
Game Trailers "Godfather II deserves props for it's sandbox style action and enjoyable strategic management... if you'd rather call the shots than jump through hoops, this unique game is your kind of racket."
Joystiq "Godfather II is like waking up on December 25 and not realizing it's Christmas. It's a wonderful surprise, and EA has really managed to build on the previous game." God Father 2 reviews Jeff Haynes review |
